Why Your Hair Care Starts with Your Hijab

Hair loss when combing – lots of hair in the brush due to constantly wearing hijab or bonnet

For us sisters, the hijab is more than just a piece of cloth – it is an expression of our iman, a sign of strength, dignity, and connection to our religion, Islam!
We wear it out of love and conviction – day after day. But while we cover our awrah, we sometimes forget to take care of what lies beneath: our hair.

There is usually a bonnet underneath the scarf to keep everything in place and prevent it from slipping. But: after a few hours, your hair is flat, airtight, and without volume – it looks tired, irritated, and stressed. What often feels like just a “bad hair day” can leave real damage in the long run: friction, constant pulling, and lack of air circulation cause the hair to dry out, break, or the hairline to thin more and more.

And all this – even though you take good care of your hair, use oils, and apply masks? Maybe it’s not your hair care at all, but what you wear on your head every day: bonnet and hijab.

What exactly is going wrong under the hijab?
Many hijabis tie their headscarves very tightly – out of habit or because otherwise they wouldn’t stay in place. But this is precisely what causes problems over time:

  • Pulling on your hair: A hijab that’s too tight constantly pulls on your hair roots, especially at the temples. Over time, this can lead to traction alopecia – mechanical hair loss.

  • Friction from bonnet fabrics: Many bonnets are made of synthetic materials like polyester. These rub against the hair, causing dryness and split ends.

  • Heat buildup & sweating: Some fabrics may appear lightweight, but are actually not breathable – like cheap polyester chiffon. The delicate look can be misleading: air can hardly circulate, your scalp sweats, and moisture builds up under the hijab. The result? Itching, greasy roots, dry ends – simply not a good environment for your hair.

  • Constant pressure on head and ears: Headaches and pressure behind the ears? This often comes from the wrong bonnet or a scarf that’s too tight.

Your Must Have
To avoid unnecessary stress on your hair, we developed an alternative that really works: our Bonbana® undercaps!
Not only do they look stylish – they are specially designed to be completely hijab-friendly.

What makes them so special?

  • Ventilation holes ensure real air circulation – your scalp can finally breathe

  • Secure hold without pressure on ears

  • And the best part? Hijabs made of structured fabrics like jersey adhere to the Bonbana® undercap – without any needles or pins at the head! The slightly textured surface ensures that your scarf stays in place – almost as if “glued.”

And honestly, who hasn’t experienced this? Regular pins often leave small holes in your headscarves over time – especially annoying with delicate fabrics.

Stylish, lightweight, and compatible with any hijab look – ready for your everyday style!
